in with the new PQ

If we’re connected via social media, you may have noticed that I recently stepped down from my role at Poets’ Quarterly. First, I wish to offer thanks to those who have reached out to thank and congratulate me on my time at PQ. I started the journal five years ago and every single issue meant a great deal to me. Working with so many talented editors and contributors was a joy, day in and day out. I also want to acknowledge and thank Leslie Nielsen for stepping up as the new publisher and editor of PQ. Leslie has a long history with the journal and I am proud to have her take over the job.

Some have asked why I would step down from PQ, especially since the journal seems to be gaining more readers every month, adding to the already thousands of readers we know and love. It’s simple, really. I both want to see PQ grow beyond me—and hence it needs new blood for that to happen—and I also want to make sure I balance all of my lit community commitments. I happily have my hand in a lot of pots and in order to best serve each of those ventures, a shift in focus was required. I have given five years to PQ, hopefully five good years, and I know with Leslie in the captain’s chair the journal will continue to thrive and grow well into the future.

Thank you to all who have read, shared, and/or contributed to PQ in some way. Your enthusiasm has made it possible for PQ to shine on and I encourage you to keep up with the latest issue each quarter and lend a hand to Leslie in whatever way you can.

As for me, keep in touch. I have many exciting projects around the corner and it’s because of this incredible community of which I feel a part that I know there’s yet unidentified fun in the cards for me, too.

new issue of Poets' Quarterly

The summer issue of Poets' Quarterly is now live, with 19 reviews, 4 essays, and 3 interviews.

Check out the latest at www.PoetsQuarterly.com.

Be sure to look at Kevin Brown’s essay, “What I Learned as a Literary Journal Reader.” Here’s a quick preview:

"We often hear about the challenging job market and how any small error can cause one to have his or her resume pulled from the pile. The same is true when it comes to submissions."

And, if you're a writer and/or reviewer, check out the Submission Guidelines! The fall issue deadline is September 30th.

launch of Poets’ Quarterly!

This post comes late in the day, but what a day it’s been. Today is the launch of Poets’ Quarterly, an online journal featuring reviews of new poetry books and interviews with poets.

Issue I, Volume I is now live and online so I do hope you will find your way over to http://www.poetsquarterly.com/ to have a look at all the wonderful content provided by the contributors. There are 24 reviews and interviews, showcasing the poetic works of Diana M. Raab, Kara Candito, Ken Meisel, Derick Burleson, and many more.

For those of you interested in submitting reviews or conducting interviews, please do have a look at the Submission Guidelines. Poets’ Quarterly publishes – you guessed it – quarterly and the next deadline is in December, in preparation for the January issue. If you are an author or publisher seeking reviews, check the website for details. Reviewers are notified of assignment availabilities.

I’m really pleased with the launch issue and hope you enjoy it, share the link and visit the website for each new issue. If you have any questions, let me know at info@poetsquarterly.com if your questions are not answered at http://www.poetsquarterly.com/.

Thanks to all the contributors for putting together a great first issue!
